It’s National Roofing Week and although it’s not something celebrated by everyone, it serves as a reminder every summer that you have a roof and need a roofer. We thought we’d share a few fun facts and some information you may not know about roofs and roofers in Orlando.
Did You Know
So here are a few things you may or may not know about roofs and roofing materials:
- Asphalt shingles are the newest of all roofing products introduced around 1900. Clay tile roofing is the oldest, dating back to around 10,000 BC.
- On a typical summer day in Orlando, your dark asphalt roof’s surface might be as hot as 190 degrees – the darker the color, the hotter it is. A white roof may only be 120 degrees on the same day!
- Mansard roofs were developed in France to avoid taxes as a building was taxed based on the number of floors and the roof didn’t count.
- Green roofs (the ones with plants growing on them) are less susceptible to leaks and last longer than many other roofing materials. This is in part to the fact that the roofing material underneath isn’t subject to deterioration by UV rays and the fact that the plants use the rain that falls.
Orlando Roofer Facts
Roofers in Orlando must take ongoing training to maintain their roofing license just like teacher. Although the BBB lists just over 100 accredited roofers within 25 miles of Orlando, many more do business here, be wary of those not accredited. There is no difference in licenses for roofers who install asphalt shingles, tile roofing, or metal roofing. The accreditation and training come from the manufacturers. Because there is no difference in licensing, make sure your Orlando roofer has the training and experience to install the type of roof you want.
The type of roof you choose will likely be dictated by your homeowners association. They may recommend a roofer but you should make sure that the one you choose has a valid local license, insurance, and experience in the roofing material you need. When you choose Russ Noyes Roofing as your Orlando roofer, you get a roofer who not only has the license, insurance and experience you expect but also one who offers industry leading guarantees and works with approval committees throughout the area. If you need roof repair or a roof replacement, call Russ, the roofer you can trust, at 407-388-7700.
