Since 2013 we’ve maintained our HAAG Residential Roofing certification. As an Orlando roofing company, we believe it’s imperative that we have this certification to best serve our customers. After the storms of last year, we decided that tackling the process of becoming a Wind Damage HAAG Certified Inspector would benefit our customers in numerous ways. The hurricane and tropical storms we experienced damaged countless roofs. Although many homeowners sustained water damage, the leading cause of the roof leaks that allowed the water into their homes was wind damage.
When strong winds lift your shingles, your roofing is less able to protect your home from rain. When tropical storm and hurricane force winds come from the same direction for a long period of time, your shingles bend, and depending on their age, may break or blow away. That sort of storm damage is easy to spot. It takes a trained eye to recognize wind damage that didn’t result in visible issues on your roof. Not being able to see the damage, doesn’t mean it’s not there.
Why You Should Hire a HAAG Certified Residential Roofing Company
Insurance adjustors are also HAAG Certified so they understand the dedication, training, and testing that goes into obtaining a certification. So, if you and your insurance company are at odds regarding a claim, when you have a HAAG Certified roofer presenting their findings, they take it seriously. The certification program teaches things like being able to distinguish damage from wind versus poor manufacturing or installation techniques. To the average roofer, these issues can appear the same. A HAAG Certified inspector has the training to determine the origin of the damage. They know that the damage assessment wasn’t done by a storm chaser looking to take you and them for every penny possible.
What it Takes to Obtain Certification
There is a list of prerequisites to even register for the three-day intensive training course. Once the training is complete, each student must pass the written exam. The exam requires the participant to recall the advanced damage assessment techniques and philosophies in order to pass the exam. The certification only lasts one year and each student must re-test to maintain the certification.
