We can all agree that winter in Orlando and winter in just about everywhere else in the U.S. is quite different, however, that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t prepare your roof for winter and have a dependable commercial roofing company able to repair it. As we head into our dry and cooler season, you want to make sure your roof is in good condition, after all, it doesn’t take much rain to lead to a roof leak. Here are some things you can and should do now.

Remove Debris

Although we don’t have piles of leaves that fall from trees, we can still end up with debris on the roof. Roof debris hastens the deterioration, no matter the roofing material. Whether you commercial roofing is steep slope or flat, make sure that the surface is clear of bird nests, trash, leaves and all other debris.

Check Drainage System

On a steep slope roof, this means look at your gutters. If they’re clogged or even have some debris, clean them out. Clear gutters are an important part of a healthy roofing system and will protect your building. If you have flat or low slope roofing, you likely have a different drainage system. The openings at the edge of the roof allow for water to drain. If these are clogged by bird nests, trash or anything else, you’ll end up with ponding on the roof next time it rains. Ponding isn’t good for the roof as it also speeds up deterioration. If you notice ponding and you don’t have a clog, you should call your commercial roofing company for an inspection to find out why ponding has occurred.

Inspect for Damage then Call Your Commercial Roofing Company

Only after the roof is clean can you clearly spot damage. If you see cracks in seams or around roof protrusions or equipment on the roof, call your commercial roofing company for a repair estimate. It doesn’t matter what season it is; you don’t want to leave damage unrepaired.
