1. Installation Guarantee or Warranty

2. Roofing Overlays
If the roofing contractor you’re considering hiring recommends leaving your old roof on and just putting your new shingles on top, you’re probably not hiring the right one. Although in Orlando it’s legal to put a new layer of shingles on top of the old one (up to two layers total), it’s not advisable. Putting a new layer on doesn’t fix the leak, it just covers it up. Whatever issues you have with your old roof, they’ll eventually surface with your new one. Plus it won’t last as long as a roof laid on new underlayment.
3. Lack of Insurance
When you hire any company to work on your home without insurance, you’re leaving yourself open to a lawsuit. If a worker gets injured on the job on your property and their employer isn’t properly insured, the could sue you. In the unlikely event the roofer damages your neighbor’s property, you are liable for the repair if the contractor isn’t properly insured. Ask to see their insurance certificate and if you have any doubt about its validity, call the agent listed to verify it’s still an active policy.
